Be anxious for nothing but trust God in everything.
It is only recently that the truth of the verse above hit me.  Before then, there were things I just did not bring to God in prayer because I didn’t think I needed to.  I could work them out myself, so I didn’t need to trouble God.  I only wanted to bother Him with the really serious stuff, stuff totally beyond my ability. However, Philippians 4 verse 6 tells us : ‘Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.’  It if it is bothering you, it is worth bothering God with. Nothing is too big, nothing is too small.
I am at present undergoing a course of study and it is only now, after nearly 18 months of making slow progress, that I have felt the need to bring my studies to God in prayer.  I decided recently to ask God every single day for an anointed intellect.   You know what?  The results have totally amazed me. I am now gaining understanding in the most miraculous of ways.  What I was unable to do by my might and power, God is doing for me by his spirit.  The old Christian hymn says:
‘O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear; all because we do not carry everything to
God in prayer.’
So, remember: nothing is too trivial to bring before the Lord in prayer.  Remain blessed.

‘The Good and Perfect Gift’
Do you feel sometimes that everywhere you turn, people and circumstances try to knock you down? To rob you of every ounce of self-confidence?  At times like that, the going can be hard.  You may feel misunderstood and never seem to be able to please those around you. But difficult as it seems, that is not the time to ‘co-operate’ with circumstances and people who pull you down.  Instead, we need to stand up on the inside and refuse to give in to discouragement. Why?  Because we know to whom we belong.  Unlike ‘shifting’ people and circumstances, our God is truly and wholly dependable.  He loves us with an everlasting love.  That is a great gift and the truth of that ‘gift’ is a cause for comfort and joy at all times, especially in this season. I pray today that this verse really takes root in your hearts: James 1:17 ‘Every good and perfect gift comes from above, coming from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.’  May God bless you richly and have a great Christmas.

He orders your steps and mis-steps
I suffered a bitter disappointment recently.  An opportunity was on the horizon and I believed God was going to open the door for me.  I prayed, fasted for accelerated breakthrough and even sowed a seed!  I was confident the door would swing wide open.  Guess what?  It slammed in my face.  I was distraught and fired the questions at God.  Why, God, Why? I had prayed, starved myself, bribed him with money, what else did he want? But God remained silent.  You see, it is difficult for the Holy Spirit to get through to us when our minds are full of worry, turmoil and anxiety.  Sometimes we need to be still and listen to his voice.  As I sat in Church a week later, Psalm 37:verse 23 came to my mind.  ‘The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord and he delighteth in his way’.  The lost opportunity was not an accident.  God was ordering my steps.
I understand now that God does not work to my schedule.  I can’t twist his arm in a bid to receive what he never planned for me in the first place.  Yes, I am still disappointed the door of opportunity did not open and you may be in a place of disappointment today.  But take comfort and remember that our God is wiser than we are and His plans for us are always good.  Jeremiah 29:11 says: ‘For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord.  Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’  Be encouraged.  He orders your steps and mis-steps....

Stay in the word.

This morning I decided to check instructions that came with a prescription I was given by my GP because I felt a sudden urge to look through the possible side effects.  Don’t ask me why I did that, but it is a step I will not recommend!  The list of side effects was endless.  Side effects on: my nervous system, my stomach and intestines, my liver, my metabolism, my heart and circulation, my skin and hair and miscellaneous possible side effects, which included everything else.  It seemed that the side effects were worse than reason for the medication in the first place.  To make matters worse, it suddenly felt like I was suffering every side effect listed on the drug. I felt the need to immediately begin to speak the healing words of God into my health and my body.  It brought home to me the need to be careful about what we feed our minds.  What the word of God says about us has to speak louder than any other voice. Colossians 3:16 says ‘Let the word of God dwell in you richly..’  Note the word, ‘richly’.  If the word of God that says God is your healer dwells in you richly, no ‘possible side effects’ can cause you anxiety because the word of God says Christ has paid the price for your healing. Stay blessed and stay in the word at all times.

Are you willing to change?
‘If any man is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! ‘(2 Corinthians, 5:17).   Implicit in this verse is that as Christians, change for the better is a necessary part of our testimony.  The ‘old’ here refers to old patterns of behaviour, past habits, attitudes, thoughts and actions that are less than pleasing to God.  But how often do we, as Christians, profess to be Born Again, yet still retain old patterns of behaviour? We want the benefits of belonging to the family of Christ, but we are unwilling to make the changes demanded by this new commitment. You may ask, why is change so necessary?  The answer is simple.   There is no growth, no progress, no victory, without change.  Change is testing, change is challenging, change takes us out of our comfort zone.  Our sinful nature will resist any change that forces us to become Christ-like in a sinful world. In a nut shell, change is not nice.  But, not changing is not an option.  We simply cannot come to the knowledge of Christ and remain the same. Simply put, if the transforming power of the gospel of Jesus Christ is not evident in our lives, we become what I call, ‘joke’ Christians.  So, be willing to change!

Don’t just listen, take action.
My daughter’s class received an e-mail from their course tutor yesterday. The tutor was pretty disappointed as she felt that a good deal of the work she had received from her students did not reflect the time and effort she had put into supporting the group over the past couple of months. She told them they had ignored her instructions despite discussions that had gone on in the class room. In other words, they had not put into action teaching they had listened to. The results, not surprisingly, were disappointing. It brought to my mind Paul’s exhortation to us Christians in Philippians 4v8; ‘Whatever
you have learned or received from me, or seen in me, put into practice’. I also began to think, how often do we hear sermon after sermon and yet fail sometimes to live up to our calling as disciples of our Lord, Jesus Christ? The result is often confusion and disharmony because we profess one thing and live another. But when take on the advice Paul offers in Philippians 4 :8 above, the result is often peace that
can only come from living in obedience to God’s word.
